ASIR AF2 three-component 2 Hz borehole geophone

SlimLine 2 Hz Borehole Geophone – Fixed

The AF2 is ASIR's readily deployed shallow borehole and posthole three-component 2 Hz geophone designed for high-sensitivity microseismic and earthquake monitoring. The sensor is suitable for permanent or temporary installations in boreholes up to 100 m deep and is optimized for research, geothermal, mining, carbon storage (CCS), and regional seismic monitoring applications. Its slim 51 mm diameter allows installation in narrow boreholes while providing reliable long-term performance in demanding field environments.

Advanced Features

  • extra slim 51 mm outer diameter (OD)
  • passive geophone sensors (no power required)
  • for permanent or temporary installations

Application & Deployment

  • Small, 6 to 18 station, regional monitoring networks in up to 100 m, < 3° tilted, boreholes
  • Station spaced 4 to 6 km apart for approximate event locations to within 300 to 400 meters
  • Improves detection by 1 unit of magnitude over surface networks, detecting and locating all M > ~0.5
