ASIR AG2 three-component 2 Hz gimballed borehole seismometer

MidLine 2 Hz Borehole Seismometer – Gimballed

The AG2 is ASIR's readily deployed three-component 2 Hz gimballed borehole seismometer designed for high-sensitivity microseismic and earthquake monitoring in deep boreholes. The sensor is suitable for permanent or temporary installations to depths of up to 3000 m and accommodates borehole deviations of up to 15° through its precision gimballed suspension. Combined with ASIR's mechanical hole-lock system, the AG2 delivers reliable long-term performance for geothermal energy, mining, carbon storage (CCS), oil and gas, and scientific research applications.

Advanced Features

  • slim 61 mm outer diameter (OD)
  • passive sensors on damped gimbal
  • high tilt tolerance of up to 15°
  • for permanent or temporary installations

Application & Deployment

  • Small, 6 to 18 station, regional monitoring networks in up to 3000 m, < 15° tilted, boreholes
  • Station spaced 4 to 6 km apart for event locations to within 150 to 300 meters
  • Improves detection by 2 units of magnitude over surface networks, detecting and locating all M > ~ -0.5
